What is Vinyl in the Vines? The story of Vinyl in the Vines is a simple one; a DJ called Grinning Cat wanted to put on events shaped around his love of music, wine and the island state of Tasmania. Music and wine make such great bedfellows; why not add to that by enjoying them in Tasmania’s exceptional vineyards? First and foremost Vinyl in the Vines is a family event. Having kids shouldn’t mean an end to all the fun times, but finding a place where the parents and kids can be happy. At Vinyl in the Vines the grownups get to enjoy top DJs, world-class wines and something a bit different to normal. Kids get some space to run around, meet new friends and have a boogie. Vinyl in the Vines resident DJ, Kevin Turner, aka Grinning Cat, has established himself as a champion of funky music from around the world. His DJ sets are a collection of happy memories, places travelled, positive vibes and a touch of flamboyance. The English born DJ moved to Tasmania from his hometown of Bristol in 2009 with a record collection three decades in the making. With gigs at vineyards, galleries, tractor sheds, restaurants and paddocks, Grinning Cat has been able to share his happy-go-lucky mix of soul, boogie, reggae, house, jazz, pop, funk and disco. His unique knack of taking timeless classics and reinventing them with modern elements has earned the trust of dance floors wherever he goes. Grinning Cat plays good music that people want to dance to. Sometimes it’s as simple as that.
